New hotel and commercial space near Ravenel Bridge under design

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) – The city of Mount Pleasant may soon see new places to eat, shop and stay near Memorial Waterfront Park.

This is part of the development plans for Ferry Wharf, just below the Ravenel Bridge.

Development plans for Grafton Street, which leads to Ferry Wharf Road, are due for a final review Wednesday by the Mount Pleasant Design Review Board.

At present, this site is an open grassy space, directly overlooking the Cooper River and downtown Charleston.

According to plans outlined in the City of Mount Pleasant’s DRB program, Bennett Hospitality is planning to develop another 78-room hotel along Grafton Street.

The space is proposed to have buildings on both sides of the road, with commercial and retail food and beverage areas on the first floor, and the boutique hotel, The Inn at Ferry Wharf, on the second and third floors.

There is no confirmation yet on what stores and restaurants might come here.

Right next to this space are the new Embassy Suites, which opened less than a year ago.

The master plan presented in the agenda also shows plans for an additional 150-room hotel in front of this space, closer to the water, but this proposal has not yet reached the design process.

Bennett Hospitality has yet to share a schedule for the construction of the hostel at Ferry Wharf.

The Design Review Board meeting begins at 5:00 p.m.
