Georgia Southern Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design Program Ranked 8th in the South by Fashion Schools
Georgia Southern junior Mackenzie Miller one day aspires to own a business in the fashion industry, and she found the Fashion Merchandising and Clothing Design program to be the perfect fit to help her achieve this. goal. Miller gained a lot of experience in the program, which was recently named the eighth best fashion design school in the south by fashion schools.
“My experience in the program has been very good so far,” Miller said. “What I like best is the personal level at which the students get to know the teachers. They are ready to help you learn more and take your projects to the next level.
The ranking was based on the reputation, selectivity and performance of Georgia Southern students. Students in the program explore the process of taking raw materials to manufacture finished products with an emphasis on research and development, style and design, production and marketing. Miller said his favorite part of the program is the opportunity to work closely with his peers and faculty.
“Since our department is so tight-knit, you really have a personal connection with the professors and the other students,” she said. “You see them every day throughout your stay in the program, so you develop a relationship over several semesters. It was a great experience to learn so much about my passion both inside and outside the classroom.
Miller represented his program working with the Gender Minority Closet on campus, GreenFest, and the Averitt Center for the Arts in Statesboro. She said she wanted to continue helping the less fortunate after graduation.
“(After graduation) I plan to go to graduate school and develop more knowledge about my interest in adaptive fashion and universal design, which helps design clothing for people with disabilities.” Miller said. “After that, I plan to work in the industry and then own my own business.”
