In 2013, City of Huron leaders unveiled an exciting new recreational site for the community and its visitors – the $ 10 million Splash Central water facility located in a new community park.

Selecting a site for the aquatic center involved evaluating many sites across the city and involving the community through workshops and public meetings. Taking advantage of a unique opportunity, the city finally bought a century-old university campus located in the heart of the city.

A streamlined design process and focused effort by the design team ensured the design was completed quickly, allowing the city to meet a deadline for a federal funding program. The project also enjoyed enthusiastic support from the community, with more than $ 4 million raised from private donors in just six weeks.

For lovers of the land, the surrounding park includes conventional and natural playgrounds, picnic shelters, a walking path, a sensory garden, a college memorial yard, and college artifacts integrated throughout the site. The design of the public baths honors the old campus through its architectural features and thoughtful placement within the iconic setting.
