AirPods Pro 2 Leak Teases Stunning Innovation…with a Sting in the Tail
When Apple unveils its next earphones, what we call AirPods Pro 2 and Apple will I’m sure call it the second generation AirPods Pro, there will be good news for those looking to take a big leap forward in audio innovation. . But there will also be a sting in the tail, in the price.
This is according to the latest blog post from @LeaksApplePro who has iDropNews has an in-depth look at what Apple is likely to reveal at its September event, which is expected to be the next big event after next month’s WWDC.
In addition to talking about the iPhone 14, there are details about the iPhone Pros to be announced and Apple Watch Series 8.
But the author saves his biggest superlatives for AirPods Pro 2, saying, “AirPods Pro 2 will be the biggest innovation in wireless headphones since the original AirPods were introduced in 2016.”
Well, that’s something.
One of the main reasons to love the new headphones is the support for lossless audio, also rumored with more details here, which the new report says is possible “thanks to a new codec, a stemless design, and state-of-the-art noise-cancellation technology.
The new design is intriguing and in line with other leaks that suggest Apple is eager to remove the stem sticking out of your ear.
It’s unclear if the new headphones will be announced at the September event, with the writer saying it depends on whether that event is online or in person. I’m not sure the reason given is valid, that online provides the ability to hold multiple events in a few months, as Apple has routinely done with in-person keynotes, but we’ll see.
On the other hand, the first AirPods Pro were revealed through a press release and a small-scale private behind-the-scenes event, so it’s quite possible that the AirPods Pro 2 will be launched in the same way.
There’s also confirmation here of the rumored Apple may be using USB-C instead of Lightning in the AirPods Pro 2, and you can read my reasons for believing it will happen here. There are prototypes with USB-C, claims @LeaksApplePro.
And then there is the bad news.
The last line of the report reads, “I expect these to come in white and cost around $299.”
The color is hardly a surprise, but, oh boy, the price? That’s $50 above the AirPods Pro. When Apple introduced the third generation AirPods, they were $179 with wireless charging case, which is $20 less than the second generation with wireless charging case (although more than the second generation model without wireless charging was before). So, I find the idea that Apple will raise the price by $50 a bit surprising.
Also, there are reports that the price of the second generation AirPods has now dropped to $129, sales of the latest version have not been as strong as customers have voted to get the cheaper AirPods at the moment. square.
Of course, Apple probably won’t keep the current AirPods Pro in the lineup when the next model is released, so the buyer’s dilemma won’t apply. Instead, customers will choose between second- and third-generation AirPods models, the over-ear AirPods Max, and the all-new AirPods Pro 2.
More details as they appear.
